HARLOW TOWN FC: MATCH REPORTS
I spent two years voluntarily reporting on Harlow Town FC, my write-ups becoming more concise yet hopefully more sophisticated and analytical.

HARLOW'S WINGS CLIPPED BY HIGH-FLYING NEIGHBOURS
4th February 2020
A double from ex-Hawk Andre McCollin was enough for Ware to move into top spot, defeating their ever-improving opponents in an entertaining game.

It’s important to remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Mark Holloway’s leadership, prior to today, had reaped a win, draw and a loss each. While not the sort of points tally needed to recover Harlow’s recently-decreasing promotion hopes, performances have been encouraging.

This is with thanks to an improved team spirit, a host of new players, and an increased confidence in playing the ball along the floor.

Ironically though, it was a long ball that gave The Hawks a fourth minute lead, Christian Adu Gyamfi winning the race to it, before nodding it over ex-Stortford goalkeeper Calum Kitscha.

The bravery showed by the young forward – who has been thrust into the team as part of a fruitful front-two with Tayo Oyebola – to reach the ball was symbolic of the team’s performance: a strong showing of grit, desire and confidence in the face of a challenge.

And it was those qualities that saw Harlow give Ware a good fight. In a game where Harlow were given no chance, they produced an inspired display and took the lead twice.

HARLOW AND SOUTH PARK PLAY OUT DRAB DRAW
14th December 2019
For the 104 in attendance, it was a miserable day’s viewing.

Maximum cold, minimal chances. Winds strong, performance weak.
Neither team truly took control, so it was probably fair that the festive sharing spirit was on show, both teams picking up a point in the last home game before Christmas.

Top of the tree just over a month ago, The Hawks have slipped somewhat, since going five league games without a win. Unless something changes soon, they could end up as the presents that lay beneath it all.
Because in all truth, it was another uninspiring display; the opener gift-wrapped to Leon Moore, and a serious fluidity anonymous in attack.

Form doesn’t lie. Harlow, sit 14th in a table of the last six games. As Danny Chapman mentioned in a post-match interview two weeks ago, every team has a bad patch over a season.

However, he will be hoping this one ends soon, and that his team can rise from the 8th placed position they find themselves in.

HAWKS BEATEN BY BRACKNELL
16th November 2019
It almost went to plan.
Harlow, on a run of five straight league wins, unbeaten at home, dispatchers of the impressive Westfield last time out, played well despite the scoreline suggesting otherwise.

For a completely overhauled squad with an average age of below 25, last season’s Step Three strugglers have done incredibly well to become one of Step Four’s steeliest teams; so often the comeback kings, ‘Fergie-time’ winners, or just downright dogged to pick up points from gritty performances.

Since losing Matt Rush, the 18-year old that Southend United now want back in their ranks, The Hawks have somewhat struggled to fill the gap.
Coupled with the absence of exciting winger Terrell Egbri, and the lack of attacking options on the bench...

BLUSHES SPARE IN SECOND-HALF TURNAROUND
5th October 2019
A dogged second-half display extended The Hawks’ unbeaten home run, and saw them rise to 5th in the table.

Harlow, who came into the game winless in four, were staring down the barrel of another disappointing result, courtesy of an impressive early goal from Hertford’s Kouadio Ehui.

But the inspired substitution of Samson Doherty got Danny Chapman’s side out of jail, the midfielder providing crucial goals for Terrell Egbri (‘58) and Matt Rush (‘88).

Josh Bexon, who is yet to keep a clean sheet this season, despite strong showings between the sticks, was called into action early on, his heroic diving save parrying wide a curling effort from Luke Gymer.

HARLOW IN CAGEY PENALTY SHOOTOUT VICTORY
10th September 2019
The Hawks’ League Cup campaign began with two hard-earned points, their clash with Histon finishing in a 4-2 penalty shootout win, after a 2-2 draw in normal time.

Under the new rules of the competition, draws in the group stage are preceded by spot kicks, and it was the home side who picked up an extra point courtesy of this, two strong saves from Josh Bexon complimenting bold Harlow penalties.

SHOWSTOPPER: EGBRI WONDERSTIKE SEALS VICTORY FOR HAWKS
26th August 2019
Harlow Town FC are up to fifth in the table, after winning 4-3 at home in the league for the second time running.

A late winner from Terrell Egbri sealed the three points in a game where they were behind twice.

Tayo Oyebola got the bank holiday bonanza underway in the 18th minute, but Harlow made hard work of it from there on, goals from Billy Holland (28) and Aron Gordon (40) seeing Waltham Abbey leading at half-time.

Christian Adu Gyamfi got his first ever league goal for Harlow in the 51st minute to even things up, but Nathan Koranteng looked to have won the game in the 67th minute, finishing coolly past former team-mate Josh Bexon.

But Harlow weren’t to be defeated, a tap-in from Matthew Rush (83’) and a spectacular effort from young Egbri at the death sending the visitors back home pointless.

NOT OVER JUST YET: HARLOW RESCUE FA CUP REPLAY
24th August 2019
Harlow’s FA Cup venture was put on hold following a cagey score draw in the extra-preliminary round against Brentwood Town.

A close range finish from Jason Williams in the first half looked like it would be the difference between the two step-four sides, but Ozzy Adeniji came up with a goal in the 84th minute to send the tie to a replay, which will take place at Brentwood’s ground on Tuesday the 3rd of September.

In a quiet opening ten minutes, the first blood drawn was from Brentwood left-back James Pugsley, who roughly bought down De’Jaune Taylor-Crossdale as he accelerated down the right flank. Last weekend’s two-goal hero took the set piece himself, but the delivery lacked the height and pace needed to threaten.

NEW LOOK HAWKS IMPRESS IN WEST HAM XI DRAW
31st July 2019
A mixture of triallists, returning faces from last season and already confirmed new Harlow players put on an impressive showing to a large crowd, playing out a 1-1 draw against some young and talented Hammers.
Danny Chapman will have certainly been pleased, as he got to cast his eye on plenty of potential signings, and saw some already recruited ones put in a strong shift against an energetic and spirited side.

SEASON CONCLUDES WITH ROLLERCOASTER DEFEAT
April 27th 2019
The 2018-19 season ended on an entertaining yet negative note, as the Hawks were on the wrong side of a seven-goal thriller.

In a first half not so eventful, Scott Davies’ 27th minute free kick goal was cancelled out by a penalty from opposing captain James Rogers.
Tobi Sho-Silva then got the first of a hat-trick in the 49th minute, but Tom Hitchcock bought the game back level with a smart header 14 minutes later.
Sho-Silva scored with a header of his own in the 65th minute, and would later secure his hat trick with 80 minutes on the clock.
Not before Matt Foy equalised though, with a fine individual effort in the 76th minute.
The result sees Harlow end a season to forget in last place, having gained 34 points from nine wins, seven draws and twenty-six defeats.
The main downfall for Danny Chapman and his team has ultimately been the defence, the 107 conceded massively undoing the 54 scored at the other end.

HEARTACHE AT HORNCHURCH: HARLOW'S RELEGATION CONFIRMED
April 27th 2019
A disappointing display compiled Harlow’s Easter holiday misery, as three unanswered goals from their opponents confirmed their demotion to Step 4 of Non-League Football.

A lacklustre first half had seen chances few and far between, but the deadlock was broken by Kenzer Lee in the 41st minute.

The Hawks’ great escape from relegation never really got underway though, Lee scoring again in the 61st minute. And the death knell was rung in the 65th minute, with a Sean Marks tap in.

With six points between The Hawks and safety, but only one game to make it up, Danny Chapman and his team will only be playing for pride this Saturday, as the curtain comes down on a catastrophic season.

LATE GOALS LEAVE HARLOW ON THE BRINK
April 20th 2019
A combination of wasteful finishing and poor concentration meant The Hawks squandered a great chance to strengthen their survival hopes.

With Whitehawk and Wingate and Finchley both losing, the draw that seemed likely - courtesy of Matt Foy’s 67th minute response to Kezie Ibe’s 40th minute opener - wouldn’t have been too bad a result.

But goals from Matthew Johnson (‘90) and Joshua Davison (‘93) leave Harlow bottom, yet only three points from safety.

Roared on by a large cohort of travelling fans, Enfield materialised the game’s first chance through Billy Bricknell, who’s sumptuous crossfield ball found Lewis Taafe, although Ugo Udoji made a strong block to prevent a shot.

CRUSHING DEFEAT SENDS HAWKS TO THE BOTTOM
April 6th 2019
Four goals in nine first half minutes put distance between Potters Bar and the relegation zone, while further plunging Harlow into it.

Dernell Wynter opened the floodgates in the 13th minute, and was joined on the scoresheet by Bradley Sach, who scored embarrassingly close on either side of Nana Kyei’s 21st minute goal.

Goals from Matthew Foy and Tom Hitchcock (‘49 and ‘58) threatened a comeback, but it was Wynter’s second, from the spot in the 72nd minute, that confirmed an eight defeat in ten for Harlow, and increased their likelihood of dropping down a league come May. They now sit in 22nd, four points off of safety.

Harlow Town first troubled Potters Bar five minutes in, when Scott Davis and Tom Hitchcock linked up down the left-hand side. The latter’s cross in took a heavy deflection, and almost caught out Charles Taylor in goal, who was just about comfortable in claiming it.

VICTORY FOR SMASH AND GRAB HARLOW
9th March 2019
The Hawks made a positive contribution to their survival campaign, scoring three excellent goals to frustrate a Kingstonian side who continued their dismal form.

Tom Hitchcock got his ninth goal of the season in exquisite fashion early on (‘6), and his team defended well in the first half.
Kingstonian equalised in the 50th minute though, and looked good for more goals. But a slew of good saves from QPR-loanee Marcin Brzozowski kept Harlow in the game. Matthew Foy and Hitchcock did their jobs at the other end too, with 58th and 92nd minute goals stopping the rot and giving Harlow a crucial win.

The Hawks remain in 20th on 33 points, but only a point behind the safe-for-now Whitehawk.

DOMINANT WHITEHAWK DUMP HARLOW INTO RELEGATION ZONE
23rd February 2019
A lacklustre performance saw Harlow drop into the relegation zone, with two goals from substitute Connor Tighe in the 70th and 74th minutes compounding a disappointing afternoon for Danny Chapman’s ‘Hawks’.

Whitehawk were extremely wasteful in the first half, and could’ve been two or three up at half-time.

The floodgates opened in the second 45 though, first through Nathaniel Pinney on 62 minutes, and then a quickfire double from substitute and familiar-foe Connor Tighe.

Harlow now sit in 20th, two points off, but with a game in hand over Whitehawk, who occupy the final safety position.
Both teams came into the game off the back of extremely contrasting results, and it was the visiting ‘Hawks’ who started the game better. It was a cross, from Lucas Rodrigues, which nearly resulted in the first goal, and a header from Nathaniel Pinney, that should’ve gone in given the seven-yard range he attempted from. The warning signs were there though, particularly for Yannick Kissi, who was slow to clear, allowing Rodrigues the cross.

FIRST HALF BLITZ ENOUGH FOR FOLKESTONE
9th February 2019
Harlow’s recent good run of form was bought to a halt by a rampant Folkestone, who’s three first half goals were enough to secure them a sixth away win of the season.

Goals from Matthew Newman (‘13) and Alfie Paxman (‘22) either side of a Curtis Ujah own goal (‘15) set the tone for a game dominated by the visitors, although they did concede to Matt Foy on the half hour mark.

Harlow threatened in parts, but a goal each in the second half (Adam Yusuff, ‘47) and Matt Foy (‘61) meant Folkestone successfully kept up their assault on the playoff spots.

Despite the result, Harlow remain in 19th place, 3 points above but having played two games more than Wingate and Finchley.

BEXON'S HEROICS DENT LEWES' PROMOTION CHARGE
26th January 2019
An entertaining second half saw Harlow outscore the in-form Lewes, maintaining their perfect home form for 2019 in the process.

A Nathan Koranteng penalty in the 63rd minute put The Hawks ahead. The visitors equalised three minutes later, Bexon’s weak save putting it on a plate for Dayshonne Golding.

However, a 75th minute goal Drew Richardson, coupled with some fantastic saves late on from Bexon, gave Harlow three vital points, which have seen them climb out of the relegation zone, albeit with two games in hand on Wingate and Finchley.
Lewes, keen to get back to winning ways after a midweek draw, forced a chance five minutes in, with Omarr Lawson getting past Curtis Ujah from a long ball. Josh Bexon saved his shot well, and Dayshonne Golding was just wide from a tight-angle on the follow up.

HARINGEY HUMBLED BY HAWKS
12th January 2019
Harlow bought the league leaders back down to earth with an excellent team performance.
Goals from Tom Hitchcock and Emile Acquah early in either half set the tone for a brilliant game, and a result which sees Harlow move to within one point of safety.
Haringey got one back through Ralston Gabriel (‘56), but suffered a first league defeat in 14. They remain in top spot.

HAWKS MADE TO PAY FOR SIMPLE ERRORS
29th December 2018
Harlow ended 2018 on a disappointing note, surrendering a two-goal lead to fellow basement side AFC Hornchurch.

Goals from Emile Acquah and Matt Foy had Harlow poised to go down the tunnel two up.
However, errors from Josh Bexon and Yannick Kissi allowed Sean Marks (45+1’) and Lee Porter (61’) to bring the game level.

Sean Marks scored two further goals (64’ and 77’) to cap off the result and bring The Urchins more points away from the relegation zone, although they remain in 19th place.

HARLOW BEATEN IN BOXING DAY DERBY
26th December 2018
The Hawks were punished for sloppy defending at a set piece early on, and failed to grab the equaliser in what was an uninspiring performance.

The defeat, courtesy of a tenth minute goal from Ryan Henshaw, sees Harlow end the 26th of December near the bottom of the tree, at least a point from safety, depending on later kick-offs.

Stortford started the game better off, and their first real attack came courtesy of Jamie Cureton and Alfie Mason. Ryan Henshaw passed out from the back to Mason and he tapped it back to Cureton. The veteran striker then took the ball forward and slipped it behind the defence. Mason used his pace to get there first, but his dangerous lobbed cut back was well cleared by Taylor Hastings.

HARLOW TURN ON THEIR BURNERS
15th December 2019
On a bitterly cold afternoon, The Hawks rescued a point after going 2-0 down against Leatherhead.
Early strikes in each half from Ibrahim Olutade and Shaun Okojie had Danny Chapman and his team looking at a first home defeat in three, but they rallied well, with Tom Hitchcock (61) and Nathan Koranteng (74) completing the comeback.

Although the team can be satisfied with the comeback, there is still plenty of work to be done, as Harlow still sit in the relegation zone: 20th, with 19 points.

BOGNOR BENEFIT FROM CLOSE CALL
1st December 2018
Harlow Town’s recent revival continued with an entertaining 1-1 draw against promotion-chasing Bognor Regis.

In what was a well-fought and end-to-end clash, the visitors scored from a very harsh penalty to take the lead in the ninth minute. Although Danny Chapman and his team responded very positively, they could only secure a draw, with Emile Acquah evening things up 14 minutes later.

RESILIENT HARLOW IN IMPRESSIVE WIN
17th November 2018
The Hawks got their first home league win at the ninth time of asking, after putting in an excellent shift against the high flying Tonbridge Angels.

Both teams had come close throughout the game, and although the visitors had more possession in the second half, they blanked for the third straight match, and fell to a defeat courtesy of Laurence Vaughan’s late goal.

The Hawks still sit bottom of the table with 11 points, but are now only three points from safety, and have lots of positives to take from today’s game.

HAWKS OUTCLASSED BY SLEEK SHRIMPERS
6th November 2018
Harlow Town crashed out of The Essex Senior Cup, conceding five in a disappointing second half to Southend United’s Under 23 side.

Danny Chapman’s men put in a strong shift in the first half, and goals from Tom Hitchcock and JJ Da Cruz had them in the driving seat.
However, Southend were much improved in the second half, and two Isaac Hutchinson goals between finishes from Norman Wabo sent Southend through to The Round of 16, and extended Harlow’s winless run at home to 11 games.

HARLOW BOTTOM AFTER SECOND HALF COLLAPSE
3rd November 2018
The Hawks’ Home Hoodoo continued courtesy of three second half goals from the visitors, with the game all square half time.

The scoreline was dissappointing given that Nathan Koranteng netted in just the second minute.

The lead didn’t last too long, as Tashan Hayden-Smith scored in the 12th minute.

Merstham then dominated the second half to take home three points, goals from Walter Figuiera (49'), Tom Kavanagh (89) and then Tom Bird (93') giving them their first away win of the season.

CLINICAL CARSHALTON HIT HAWKS FOR FOUR
13th October 2018
Two goals in either half saw Harlow drop into the relegation zone in what was a sloppy performance.

First half strikes from Michael Onovwigun and Bobby Price gave Harlow a tough task in the second half. The home side were somewhat improved, but Michael Dixon and Jacob Mendy struck off the bench to add the gloss on a result that extends Harlow’s winless run at home this season.

Carshalton have risen to 12th as a result, while Harlow now find themselves in 21st place.

Despite not being on top of the game, Harlow should’ve gone ahead as early as minute four. A centre-circle free kick from Jason Raad was dinked into the box, finding new signing Sewa Marah, but the winger’s attempt at a simple lobbed cut back was narrowly over the top right of the goal.

HARLOW DEFEATED IN VITAL RELEGATION CLASH
15th September 2018
A simple set piece and a sloppy stoppage time goal saw Harlow drop into the relegation zone in this early season six-pointer.

Things were looking bright for Harlow, with a solo masterpiece from Jason Raad giving them the lead despite being the lesser side in the first half.

But the game was soon turned on it’s head, a 62nd minute freekick from The Casuals’ skipper and a 91st minute goal from their top scorer consigning Harlow to a fifth consecutive home defeat.

The defeat sees Harlow end the day in 21st, with Corinthian-Casuals leapfrogging them, as they now sit in 19th.

LATE PENALTY SENDS HAWKS OUT OF FA CUP
11th September 2018
The Hawks were unable to capitalise on a man advantage, losing 2-1 to a stubborn Hendon side who nicked it late on.

Romario Jonas opened the scoring for Hendon in the 76th minute.
With Harlow staring down the barrel of a 4th consecutive home defeat, JJ Da Cruz equalised with a powerful header, sending the tie into extra time.

It wasn’t to be for Harlow though, who despite being a man up since the 61st minute, threw away the £6,000 prize money up for grabs by conceding an 118th minute penalty.

Harlow were playing brightly in the first ten minutes, knocking the ball around at speed and with accuracy. However, there only real chance of this period came when Paul Rodgers unleashed an ambitious effort from 35 yards out in the first 60 seconds, his sliced shot dipped well but didn’t really trouble the keeper.

A DISAPPOINTING DERBY DAY
27th August 2018
Bishops Stortford ran out comprehensive winners in what was a disappointing day for Harlow, who continued their poor start to the season.

An even first half ended with Harlow trailing after a 43rd minute goal from Olutoyosi Olusanya.

And things only got worse in the second half, with Jake Cass and Alfie Mason scoring to confirm the three points, before Charlie Edwards scored a consolation penalty late on.

The result sees Harlow end the day in 22nd place, with just one point from the opening five games.

In what was a fast-paced start, Jason Raad volleyed the ball way over after an accurate cutback from Emile Acquah.

HAWKS SUFFER VELOCITY TROPHY DEFEAT
21st August 2018
Two quickfire second half goals saw Potters Bar advance at Harlow’s expense, after what was a promising first-half from the hosts.

Charlie Edwards opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a cool nutmeg to put Harlow 1-0 up.

However, goals in the 61st and 63rd minute from Bradley Sach and George Nicholas meant Harlow fell at the first hurdle of Isthmian’s ‘Leage Cup’ for the second season in a row.

With Potters Bar also looking to avoid a first-round exit, the game began at a fast pace.

HARLOW PICK UP HARD EARNED POINT
14th August 2018
A promising second half display saw debuting defender JJ Da Cruz score to cancel out a first half goal from Conor Tighe.

The familiar foe scored an impressive goal in the 23rd minute to put the visitors ahead.

Harlow looked on their way to a second consecutive defeat, but Da Cruz scored following some pinball football at a corner to secure a hard-earned draw.

The result sees Harlow finish the day in 18th, with one point from two games.
Keen to bounce back from Saturday’s disappointment, Harlow were pressing hard from the start, but it was Burgess Hill who had the first real chance. From a clearance, Aaron Smith-Joseph wheeled away from left-back Paul Rodgers, with Rodgers eventually getting back and seeing it out for a corner which came close but lacked a recipient.

YOUNG HAMMERS HELD BY HAWKS
1st August 2018
An almost completely new Harlow team put in an efficient performance to keep a clean sheet against a slick and energetic West Ham youth side.

Harlow started brightly, with their first attack coming in the second minute. Christian Adu Gyamfi and Leyton Orient loanee Charles Clayton exchanged passes in the middle. Clayton slipped it wide to left-back Laurence Vaughan. His cross was promising, but both Syrus Gordon and Gyamfi were offside in trying to reach it.

Then, two minutes later, Fabion Simms cut out a promising cross from Longelo, and sent an impressive through ball to Gyamfi, who shot first time, but was just wide.

West Ham youngsters Sypridis, Watson and Longelo showed their skill in the fifth minute with a silky counter, but Longelo’s shot was easily gathered by David Hughes.

LATE PENALTY SEES HARLOW END ON A LOSS
28th April 2018
An 89th minute penalty from opposing captain Sean Cronin ended Harlow’s recent good home form and their season on a low.

In a game where there was an end-of-season feel, the bore draw score line looked certain, but a retiring Ibrahima Sonko’s rash tackle in the box late on made all the difference.

The results sees Harlow end the disappointing season in 21st place, with 13 wins, 8 draws and 25 losses. A late season resurgence is to thank, as 4 wins and a draw from the last 8 games have seen The Hawks steer well clear of the sole relegation spot.

HAWKS SECURE LEAGUE STATUS
April 14th 2018
A fourth consecutive home win saw Harlow beat Brightlingsea 2-0 and mathematically confirm their place in next season’s seventh tier of English football.
A tenth minute penalty and 27th minute Matt Foy header was the difference between the two teams in what was otherwise a fairly uneventful game.
Burgess Hill and Tooting and Mitcham now sit six and seven points behind The Hawks at the bottom. With the pair of them only having 2 games remaining, Harlow are mathematically safe from being the one team to get relegated.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Christian Scales was the first instigator of a threatening attack. He made a clever run into the opposition half with eight minutes on the clock, before finding Matt Foy in a good spot just outside the box. Foy was unable to do anything with the ball, but the sharpness of Harlow’s play was a warning. Scales then showed good footwork in the centre of the park, slipping it to Alex Read on the left touchline, who’s dangerous crossfield ball to Jared Small could only be cut back into the hands of Brightlingsea’s keeper.

TEN MAN HAWKS BATTLE TO VICTORY
2nd April 2018
Despite being a man down for just over 76 minutes, a stubborn Harlow overcame an in-form Thurrock side to pick up a third straight home win.

Harlow improved their five-game scoring streak at home in the 10th minute, but the game was turned on it’s head just four minutes later when Robbie Martin was sent off.

33rd and 43rd minute goals put Thurrock ahead, but an impressive second half saw Christian Scales equalise directly from a corner, before Jared Small hit the winner with an emphatic strike.
The win sees Harlow solidify their position in 21st, four points ahead of Lowestoft. Most importantly, they are NINE points above the relegation spot, although they have played two games more than the team occupying it: Burgess Hill.
With both sets of players eager to do well for different reasons, it was Thurrock who had the first chance, Charlie Stimson slipping the ball to Jordan Clark on the turn, but Hughes got down low to save his shot. This aside, the first ten minutes were fairly quiet, both teams struggling to get an upper hand, although both were showing good intent.

IMPRESSIVE HARLOW SECURE THREE HUGE POINTS
24th March 2018
Two well taken finishes gave Harlow the win at The McCullochs Arena, with Leatherhead only managing a late consolation goal.

Harlow made the best possible start when Matt Foy got his fifth for the club in the second minute, before Robbie Martin doubled the lead in the 18th minute.
Leatherhead threatened to make a comeback, but Aron Pollock’s 91st minute goal was the only one they would score.
The result sees Harlow move up to 21st, one point above Lowestoft, who beat 23rd placed Tooting and Mitcham earlier today. Harlow are now six points above the dreaded 24th relegation spot, albeit having played two games more than the team occupying it: Burgess Hill

HARLOW LOSE AFTER SECOND HALF COMEBACK
24th February 2018
Harlow’s winless run extended to eight games after Staines showed their attacking class to quickly respond to a spirited Harlow fightback at a bitterly cold McCullochs Arena.

Staines scored 15 minutes into either half to gain a perhaps unjust 2-0 lead. The first was from Max Worsfold, the second from Lewis Driver.

Harlow responded well, a Staines own goal and smart Jared Small finish happening within four minutes of eachother to even up the game and give Harlow the chance to grab a rare and emphatic win.

It wasn’t to be though, with Driver scoring again almost immediately, before Mohamed Bettamer secured three points for the visitors in the 84th minute.

The defeat sees Harlow remain in 23rd, two points above but having played two games more than Burgess Hill, who also lost today. The Hawks remain four points behind Tooting and Mitcham, and five behind Worthing.

This game was important to both teams for different reasons. Staines had not won in two and were keen to keep up their play-off push. Harlow were keen to stop them though, defending well and putting good pressure on Staines’ prolific front three.

HARLOW PEGGED BACK AT THE DEATH
10th February 2018
Alex Read’s early goal was cancelled out by an 89th minute equaliser, maintaining the slim one-point gap between the two teams.
The Hawks striker ended his month-long draught in the 12th minute, latching onto a Robbie Martin header at a set piece to put the home side ahead.

Despite some cagey play from either team towards the end, it looked as if Harlow would pick up their first win in six, but the visitors got it back to 1-1 through Connor Tighe.

The draw sees Harlow remain in 23rd, and Burgess Hill remain in 24th. Harlow are now four points behind Tooting and Mitcham and Needham Market, albeit with a game in hand on the former.
